BIOGRAPHY
Henry Hagenbuch grew up in San Francisco and was an all-around athlete. He found his niche in endurance athletics and continued to pursue cross country and track into college. It was not until he made his way to UCLA did his running really start to pick-up.
In spring of 2008, specializing in the 3000m steeplechase, Henry placed 14th at the NCAA Championships. In doing so, he received All-American honors and cemented himself in the UCLA record books as the 5th fastest steeplechaser in UCLA track history (8:45). Hagenbuch also received the Rafer Johnson Most Inspirational Athlete Award from the UCLA Track and Field program. What stood out for the UCLA coaching staff was not only Henry’s ability on the track but how he was able to bridge the social gaps between different groups of athletes on the team. They felt that Henry had single-handedly helped build team morale and cohesion to a level that had not existed for some time. Hagenbuch graduated UCLA in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science.
In 2009, Hagenbuch became a triathlete and his career began in a big way. With a top 5 overall finish at the coveted Avia Wildflower Triathlon and an overall win at Escape from Alcatraz, Henry was hooked. Hagenbuch earned his Pro-card with his win at EFA and turned Pro in 2010. Since then, he’s been fine-tuning his swimming and biking and getting excited for the 2011 season.
Henry married the love of his life on September 25, 2010 and they currently reside in Los Angeles, where he has business school aspirations. 2011 will be yet another important building year towards a spot on the 2016 Olympic team. Hagenbuch owes much of his success to his loyal sponsors, for without their support none of this would be possible.
