Hagenbuch will compete at the 2011 ITU Gijon Duathlon World Championships on September 24. As such, he has kept a training log up until his date of departure on September 18. 12th place finish for Hagenbuch at NYC Tri.
Hagenbuch was back in action this past weekend at the 5i50 Nautica New York City Triathlon. Slated as the last qualifier for the coveted 5i50 HyVee Finale, this race boasted a field that was deeper than deep. "I knew going in it was going to be a tall order to replicate my finish from last year, especially considering my current fitness. Hagenbuch qualifies for 1st USAT Duathlon Worlds team.
With his finish at the Duathlon National Championships this past weekend, Hagenbuch grabbed the fourth and final spot on the USAT Duathlon team that will travel to the Short Course Duathlon World Championships, held in Spain on September 25, 2011. "One of my pre-season goals was to qualify for the Worlds Duathlon team. I am absolutely elated at this result!" The World Championships will be a draft-legal bike, which places more emphasis on the run, Hagenbuch's specialty. Check out the blog for more updates. GoHHGo!
HH places 5th (4th American) at Duathlon Nationals in Oro Valley, AZ.
Hot, dry and very windy conditions couldn't stop Hagenbuch from grabbing a top 5 finish at the 2011 Duathlon National Championships in Arizona. Considered by many to be the toughest Duathlon Nationals course yet, HH was able to hold his own against supreme run-bike specialists. "Being a non-draft duathlon, I knew I had my work cut out for me on the bike. I tried to stay in contention but couldn't quite make up the gap on the second run. Hagenbuch takes 6th at the ITU Pan American Cup in Mazatlan, Mexico.
On a day with tough conditions, Hagenbuch prevailed and posted his best ITU result to date and finished as the top American in the field. "When I came into T2 around 20th, I knew I was in a good position to run through the field, so I shot out of transition as if I was shot out of a cannon!"
